html challenge
MigrationBy now you have been able to create a basic web page, upload to a server, and view either locally or on a remote server.
Your challenges:
Part 1: creating a web page on a web server
- enable apache2 web server on one of our machines or your local machine (mac instructions below)
- create an html file on this machine using something from w3schools.com or your own clever code, that you can view, remember to use all lowercase, and end in
progress.html - ssh
forinto the class web server (10.14.88.81) and create a folder in the server - upload a NICE web page there and confirm you can see it locally (http://pi-alpha.hpa.edu)
Part 2: uploading using scp (secure copy)
- create an html page on your local computer named final.html
- copy this file to the cs server using the following command: scp <drag file here> pi@10.14.88.81:/var/www/html/final/name where "name" is your first name: abiel, alex, christian, daniel, edel, grady, jiho, max, philipp, vasco
- test your page by going to http://pi-alpha.hpa.edu/final/name/final.html
- take a screenshot of this wonderful site, and email it to me
Part 3: relative reference, absolute reference (href)
- to create a link, use this format:
<a href="https://www.w3schools.com/">Visit W3Schools.com!</a>
For a local reference, use this format:
<a href="/css/default.asp">CSS Tutorial</a>
where the folder path is what is linked, relative to where your page is
For example:
In your folder named /final/alex, you have an html file called dexter.png
Your link would be:
<a href="dexter.png">cool photo of dexter</a>
you can see the anchor tag <a> needs to start and end, a href is a special kind of anchor.
If you had a subfolder named files, the link might look like this:
<a href="/files/dexter.png">more dexter stuff</a>
