Change management

MigrationAny proposal for change must follow these steps:

  1. Current conditions: explain what the current situation is, including issues, special circumstances or resources. This may also involve SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats).
  2. Proposed change: explain why a change is needed to address the issues above, and what that change should be, what is needed, who, what, and when
  3. Evaluate change: did the change solve the issues in progress(1) forabove? If not, what is needed further?
  4. Cycle back: on a regular basis, re-evaluate the current conditions: are the same conditions present? What further changes need to be made?

The reason this is so important is many changes in organizations are done addressing an issue, with no sense of the cause and effect of past decisions.
Re-evaluating any change on a regular basis forces decision makers to recognize that conditions always change, and the reasoning behind decisions.
This is sometimes called "institutional memory"
