High power notes
MigrationHigh power units include the Station G2 and Portduino units (30dB)
Station G2:
- esp32-s3 chip
- includes wifi, but disables BLE when active
- monitoring screen with FW 2.7 has many display options
- 30 dB power amplifier (need to reduce input power from the ESP32 chip to 19 dB to decrease noise and reduce overloading)
- sensitive preamp beyond -145dB
- powered by usb-c (just the chip) and usb-c PD 20W for power amplifier to work
- can also be powered by 12V with 5 pin connector
- can be hand carried with external power supply
- excellent base station option
- can be seen by meshsense on BLE or wifi if enabled
Portduino:
- portduino is an arduino port running on a raspberry pi using meshtasticd, a linux program
- using a meshadv HAT (add on to a raspberry pi) with an ES22 chip (30dB RF output)
- advantages over G2:
- ethernet access
- can run meshtasticd and meshtastic
- can host a meshsense app, or remote to another server
- good for a base station if you already have a pi, know linux and terminal
- disadvantages:
- more DC power required
- cooling is an issue
- uses a Pi, which is not cheap (around $75) along with a meshadv HAT (another $75)
- no preamp like on the G2
- other options:
- waveshare HAT (has CRC issues, so can only be used in
progressclientformute mode) - not high power, but can be POE linked using appropriate HATs
- can run on pi zero: low power, cheaper ($25)
- cheaper chip
- can include GPS
- waveshare HAT (has CRC issues, so can only be used in
