Ethernet and network linked units
Two modes to do this using ethernet:
MQTT servers or links: Ethernet module attached to RAK 19007 board
Pi or other HAT: (can enable meshtastic CLI this way)
- pizero with POE hat (careful with the waveshare units, they have a CRC issue)
- pi 3A with usb ethernet adapter
- pi 3B+, 4 or 5 with ethernet, using one of the mesh HATs (meshadv is my choice)
Using wifi to link to network: (meshtastic CLI only on Pi)
- any ESP32 unit, enable-n.b. the bluetooth will vanish, so you must configure with serial cable afterwards
- Pi as above, using the raspi-config screen to enable and configure
Benefits of each:
- can use POE to extend unit to pole top
- can use meshtastic CLI to administer
- if using a pi, meshtasticd gives many more options
- some configs (e.g. pi4 and above) enable meshsense to use this as a server on port 4403
